A long-awaited writing workshop was finally held at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), on 13 July 2026. The workshop had been postponed several times due to the busy schedule of Professor Gs. Dr Tarmiji Masron, who currently serves as the Director of the Strategic Planning, Quality and Risk Management Centre (SQRC), UNIMAS.

FSSH is truly grateful that Professor Gs. Dr Tarmiji was able to allocate time from his busy schedule to share his knowledge and experience with the faculty’s academic staff through a workshop entitled “From Proposal to Funding a Research Grant”. The workshop served as an important capacity-building session by providing practical guidance on developing strong research proposals, including problem statements, methodologies, and impact statements. It also equipped faculty members with strategies to improve the success of research grant applications through effective proposal structuring and budgeting, while offering hands-on experience in reviewing and refining draft grant proposals prior to submission.

A total of 25 academic staff from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UNIMAS, attended the workshop. Throughout the session, Professor Gs. Dr Tarmiji shared valuable insights drawn from his own experience in preparing research proposals and securing research grants. His practical advice and willingness to share his experiences were greatly appreciated by all participants.

The workshop provided participants with useful knowledge and practical guidance that will assist them in preparing stronger research grant proposals in the future. FSSH sincerely appreciates Professor Gs. Dr Tarmiji’s generosity in sharing his expertise and experience with the faculty, and prays that he will continue to be blessed with good health, strength, and success in his future endeavours.
