Faculty of Engineering — As part of the UNIMAS Mobility Programme organised by UNIMAS Business School, the Faculty of Engineering held a three-hour academic and practical session on Intelligent Manufacturing and Robotic Automation on 20 January 2026. The session involved 18 students from Jiangsu Normal University Kewen College, China and took place at the STEM Room, Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS.
The session aimed to introduce students to modern manufacturing systems used in industry. The focus was on automation, robotics, and production line operations. The programme included a short lecture, a live demonstration, and hands-on activities. The session started with an introductory lecture on intelligent manufacturing. Students learned about the basic elements of a manufacturing system, such as materials, labour, energy, machines, and production processes. The lecture also explained how sensors and automation are used to improve productivity, quality, and sustainability in industry.
Next, a robotic arm demonstration was conducted. Students were introduced to an educational robotic arm used for learning and training. The demonstration explained the main parts of the robot, its working area, and how it is used in production lines for tasks such as material handling.
In the final session, students joined a hands-on programming activity. With guidance, they learned simple robot programming to perform pick-and-place tasks and drawing using a pen tool. This activity helped students understand how robotic systems work in real industrial applications.
Overall, the programme provided useful practical exposure to intelligent manufacturing and robotic automation. The session was led by Dr. Norlida Jamil, with support from Dr. Aaron and Dr. Mohd Affifudin from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The session showed UNIMAS’s commitment to international academic collaboration and gave students valuable insight into modern engineering practices.
