On 13th August 2026, the Faculty of Built Environment held the “Embedding Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Competencies and Values-Based Education (VBE) in CLOs and Assessment” workshop. Organised by the Faculty Quality Management Committee (FQMC) and led by the faculty’s Academic Quality Coordinator (PKA), the workshop brought together the lecturers from Architecture as well as Quantity Surveying departments.

The workshop focused on connecting ESD competencies and VBE values with CLOs, Programme Learning Outcomes (PLOs), teaching and learning activities, and assessment methods. Key areas included incorporating relevant ESD keywords into CLO statements, identifying suitable core courses, and aligning VBE values with UNIMAS and Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) core values. These connections are intended to make sustainability and values explicit in course design and student learning.

Attention was also given to assessment rubrics and evidence of attainment, including project briefs and attainment reports, as well as planning Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) where needed. This emphasis supports lecturers in reviewing course documentation and demonstrating how students develop the intended competencies and values. The workshop was designed to support curriculum enhancement, accreditation readiness and the implementation of MQF 2024 across the faculty’s programmes.

This workshop formed part of the faculty’s efforts to help lecturers incorporate sustainability and values into their teaching. Its emphasis on sustainability and values is consistent with the UNIMAS Strategic Plan 2026–2030, which places sustainability within teaching and curriculum design. All in all, this workshop successfully planted a foundation for more consistent integration of ESD and VBE into built environment education, supporting the development of graduates who can connect professional knowledge with ethical responsibility and sustainable practice.
