KOTA SAMARAHAN, 26 July 2026 – The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), successfully organized the inaugural Sarawak Maths Attack Camp (SMAC) 2026, a three-day intensive mathematics enrichment programme designed to strengthen Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates’ mastery of Mathematics and Additional Mathematics.
Held from 24 to 26 July 2026 at FCSIT, UNIMAS, the programme brought together 67 Form 5 students from 13 secondary schools across Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Bau, Siburan, and Asajaya.
The camp was jointly organized by FCSIT and the Bidayuh Graduates Association (BGA), with full funding from the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak.
Recognising that mathematics forms the backbone of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education and is essential to advancing Sarawak’s Digital Economy agenda, SMAC was introduced to address the continuing challenges faced by students in SPM Mathematics and Additional Mathematics.

The programme adopted an intensive and interactive learning approach aimed at strengthening fundamental concepts, enhancing analytical thinking, and building students’ confidence in tackling examination questions.
Throughout the camp, seven FCSIT academic staff members guided participants through engaging learning sessions, strategic examination techniques, and collaborative problem-solving activities.

The interactive format encouraged active participation while helping students develop stronger mathematical reasoning and exam readiness.

The programme concluded with an official closing ceremony officiated by Mr. Donald anak Henry Nohed, Head of the Education Division, representing the Permanent Secretary of MEITD Sarawak.
The successful implementation of SMAC 2026 reflects UNIMAS’ commitment to supporting academic excellence, nurturing future STEM talent, and strengthening collaborations with government agencies and community partners.
By equipping students with stronger mathematical competencies and greater confidence, the initiative contributes to developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting Sarawak’s aspirations as a digitally driven and innovation-led economy.
