On 1 October 2026, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), UNIMAS hosted a Special Guest Lecture, “Developing an Ecosystem to Support Drug Repurposing Across Policy, Basic Research and Clinical Validation.” The programme explored how existing medicines can be developed for new therapeutic applications by strengthening connections between scientific discovery, clinical validation and policy.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Yolanda Augustin, Senior Lecturer in Global Health and Consultant Clinical Oncologist, and Dr Nafeesa Mat Ali, Clinical Research Fellow and NeoART Trials Manager, from City St George’s, University of London. Their lectures provided valuable perspectives on oncology translation, clinical trials and the practical opportunities and challenges of drug repurposing.

The occasion was made even more memorable by a courtesy visit from Professor Ophira Ginsburg, Founding Co-Chair of The Lancet Commission on Women, Power and Cancer, bringing an important global perspective on cancer equity.

The programme reflects FMHS UNIMAS’ commitment to fostering international collaboration, translational research and meaningful partnerships that ultimately improve cancer care and patient outcomes.
