Kuching, 5 March 2026 – Nearly 100 students and staff at Politeknik Kuching, Sarawak attended the Health Campus Talk: Preventing Risky Sexual Behaviors, organized by the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. The program aimed to educate the campus community on sexual health, HIV prevention, and the risks of teenage and early pregnancies.

The talk was delivered by Dr. Mohammed Rasheedan bin Ellin from UNIMAS, who highlighted current trends in HIV infection, key at-risk populations, and the potential consequences of early pregnancies and homosexual behavior among students.

Supporting the event, a team from the Nursing Department — Mdm. Aidawati Nyowib, Mdm. Siti Hajar Marsidi, Mdm. Sumastika Mos, Mdm. Azizah Kassim, Mdm. Dayang Khaironie Awang Omar, and Mdm. Ho Lee Yen — conducted health screenings including blood pressure, blood glucose, and BMI checks, while providing health promotion and advice to participants.

The event received positive feedback from attendees. One student said, “The talk was very informative and made me more aware of the risks. The health screening was also helpful to understand my own wellbeing.” Another participant added, “I appreciate the care and guidance from the nursing team. It really encourages us to take responsibility for our health.”

Through initiatives like this, UNIMAS continues to promote health literacy and equip young adults with the knowledge and tools to make informed, responsible choices about their sexual and overall health.
