The Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation (IBEC) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) had a successful Blood Donation Program on 9th September 2025, in the Student Pavilion, Centre for Pre-University Studies, UNIMAS. The UNIMAS Teaching Hospital and the Blood Bank Unit of Sarawak General Hospital supported the program, which aimed to raise awareness about the benefits of donating blood and restock the blood supply at Sarawak General Hospital.
A good number of people showed up for the program, with 61 people offering to donate. Out of these, 53 donors were able to donate blood, which was more than the original goal of 50 blood bags. Eight potential donors were unable to proceed through with it because of medical reasons, but the total conclusion showed that the UNIMAS community and beyond are very generous.
The initiative was more than simply a way to collect blood, it was also a way to teach people about how donating blood can save lives and improve their own health. The help from sponsor, the HMN Group of Companies, was very important in making sure the event went off without a hitch and was friendly to donors.
The dedicated group, which included both IBEC’s academic and administrative staff, worked hard behind the scenes to make the event a success. We hope that such programs are going to continue in the future so that hospitals always have the resources they need to save lives.
More significantly, encourages people to give back by doing good things that help the community as a whole. We hope to continue this program next year and look forward to your support for the event.
