
OSAKA, 26 July 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has achieved another important milestone in its journey towards internationalization by signing strategic partnerships with two esteemed Japanese institutions, Chuo University and Kyoto Prefectural University, during the Expo 2025 in Osaka.
The official exchange ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS, Professor Dr. Hj Ahmad Hata Rasit, along with key representatives from partner universities. Among those present were Professor Dr. Hisashi Kawai, President of Chuo University; Professor Dr. Maki Kunimatsu, Vice President of Chuo University; and Mr. Ryuzo Masaki, International Exchange Coordinator of Kyoto Prefectural University.

These collaborations are set to catalyse opportunities in student mobility, joint research, and the exchange of academic expertise, reflecting a shared commitment to impactful global engagement. In particular, the partnerships will focus on areas of mutual interest such as green technology, sustainability, and inclusive community development, where both Sarawak and Japan share aligned priorities and strengths.

The exchange ceremony in Osaka marks the growth of UNIMAS’ academic network and strengthens the relationship between Malaysia and Japan in higher education, research innovation, and cultural understanding.
