KUALA LUMPUR, 25 February 2025 – The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), has demonstrated its research excellence by securing two awards at the International Innovation Awards during the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2025, held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from 20-22 February.

The Taboh project, led by Dr. Sarah Samson Juan, won Gold for its innovative mobile application that digitally preserves and promotes Sarawak’s traditional Iban musical instruments.
By integrating technology with cultural heritage, Taboh enables users to play and compose music using virtual versions of instruments such as Engkerumong, Tawak, Bebendai, and Ketebung.
The app does not only enhances accessibility to traditional music but also contributes to cultural preservation and tourism.

Meanwhile, the Bronze award was secured by the CakeH Chatbot project, developed by Dr. Ling Yeong Tyng.
This AI-powered chatbot revolutionizes the cake ordering process at local bakeries by enabling customers to make inquiries and place bookings seamlessly.
Built using advanced programming tools such as Android Studio, Dialogflow, and Flutter, the chatbot enhances the customer experience by automating interactions and streamlining business operations.

FCSIT’s outstanding achievements at MTE 2025 highlight the faculty’s commitment to advancing digital solutions with real-world impact.
UNIMAS was represented by a strong delegation, showcasing eight research products at the prestigious event.
The university’s participation was led by Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation, Professor Ir Dr. Siti Noor Linda Taib, UNIMAS Innovation Director, Professor Dr. Awang Ahmad Sallehin bin Awang Husaini, and Head of Innovation and Commercialisation Unit, Dr. Elexson Nillian.
