Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) organised the Innovation Technology Exposition 2023 (InTEX23) on the 23rd and 24th of August 2023 at the Raia Hotel & Convention Center, Kuching, Sarawak. InTEX23 serves as a dynamic platform designed to enable academics to showcase their research products and prototypes. This unique initiative not only highlights individual fields of expertise but also embraces interdisciplinary collaboration. This year’s edition of InTEX23 is being organized collaboratively by UNIMAS and partners from industry and state agencies. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment to fostering innovation and technology advancement between the industry and academia. This presents an opportunity for potential participants to engage, learn, and contribute to the convergence of diverse disciplines and the exploration of cutting-edge ideas.

The exposition also forms an integral component of UNIMAS’s ongoing research and innovation endeavours. This platform serves as a conduit for researchers to spotlight their findings and seamlessly channel them into inventive and imaginative outputs such as innovative products and designs.

With the theme “Research and Discovery”, InTEX23 was officiated by YB Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal, Deputy Minister of Higher Education Malaysia at an event on 24 August 2023 at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre, Kuching, Sarawak. During the event, YB Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal witnessed exchanges of Commercialisation Agreements, Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNIMAS and industry players and state agencies.  YB Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal also presented the “Best of Research Cluster” and the “Best of Overall InTEX23” awards to the inventors.

At the same event, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi, Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS presented gold awards to the winners of each R&D cluster, in addition to the silver and bronze medals. The winners of the R&D were evaluated by a panel of judges comprised of industry practitioners and academics, with 60% of the judges from the industry.

InTEX23 is the 16th Innovation and Technology Exposition installation, which began in earnest in 2006 as the UNIMAS Research and Development Exposition (R&D Expo). In 2015, it changed its name from the R&D Expo to the UNIMAS Innovation and Technology Exposition (InTEX). A total of 156 research products participated at InTEX23 and it is organised concurrently with the Borneo Business Research Conference 2023 (BBRC23) and the PUSAKA Chair Conference, helmed by the Faculty of Economy and Business, and the Institute of Creative Arts and Technology, respectively.
