Dr Yuwana Podin of the Institute of Health and Community Medicine (IHCM) together with Dr Tonnii Sia of Miri Hospital have won the bidding to host the next World Melioidosis Congress (WMC) in Kuching in 2027.
The World Melioidosis Congress occurs every 2 to 3 years and hosted by melioidosis-endemic countries. The upcoming World Melioidosis Congress in Kuching is expected to gather clinicians, scientists, and public health experts from across the globe to share the latest advancements in combating the deadly disease which has been known to cause an outbreak in Samarahan in 2022.
The preparation of the pitching was strongly supported by the Deputy Premier, Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Business Events Sarawak (a subsidiary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak), Institute of Health and Community Medicine, UNIMAS and UNIMAS Corporate.
This was announced at the recently concluded World Melioidosis Congress held from 21-23 October 2024 in Darwin, Australia.
