The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) successfully hosted its latest instalment of the Lecture Series on Industry Meets Academia, titled “The Future of Accounting Profession in Malaysia 2026.” Under the coordination of the Head of Department (Accounting), Dr. Mohd Sabrun bin Ibrahim, the event was flawlessly executed, bridging crucial industry perspectives with academic excellence.

The highlight of the morning session was a comprehensive lecture delivered by distinguished speaker and FEB Honorary Professor, Professor Dr. Fauziah Md Taib. She dove deep into the evolving landscape of the accounting profession in Malaysia, capturing the audience’s attention with timely reflections on professional ethics.

Among her most profound insights was the concept of a looming “conscience crisis” within the industry. She highlighted that the true challenge facing modern accounting professionals is no longer purely a crisis of technical competence, but increasingly a crisis of conscience. “Competence alone does not guarantee ethical practice or responsible professional judgement,” Professor Dr. Fauziah emphasized.

The lecture underscored the critical importance of integrating a values-driven approach rooted in AaDab© and ethical awareness. By instilling these values, future accounting professionals will be empowered to govern themselves effectively, uphold public and organizational trust, and withstand intense industry pressures. The dynamic morning session concluded with an active Q&A and a celebratory group photo.

The momentum continued into the afternoon as FEB UNIMAS staff participated in a specialized workshop on the AaDab© Infused Curriculum. This session focused on integrating values-driven education and holistic learning approaches into academic curriculum development, concluding with an interactive Q&A and group photograph.

Special appreciation is extended to the Dean of FEB, Professor Dr. Dayang Affizzah binti Awang Marikan, for her continuous support and encouragement in ensuring the success of the programme. This event reinforces UNIMAS’ steadfast commitment to producing future-ready, ethically minded accounting graduates while strengthening vital engagements between academia and professional industries.
