30 November 2025, Kuching – It was not just an ordinary faculty dinner, but a night of appreciation for everyone within the faculty community. These are the individuals who have been striving hard to ensure that the faculty runs smoothly, making sure that the needs of the faculty’s main stakeholder, the students, are consistently met.

The theme of the night, “smart and elegant,” brought out the best in each and every faculty member who made the time to attend. It was a chance to let their hair down in the most polite and graceful way and as the evening progressed, more hidden talents were revealed.

After the dignitaries of the night, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit and his wife, Prof Dr Ramlah Zainuddin were escorted to their seats by the Dean, Prof Dr Asri bin Said, the evening immediately kick-started with a bang. The emcee of the night, Mr Nazrul Zawawi, was introduced, took the stage, followed by a dazzling rendition of “Pesta Muda Mudi” performed by Mdm Nur’zubaidah Tumbohan and friends. Their lively performance set the tone for an evening filled with joy and camaraderie.

The Dean and the Vice-Chancellor then delivered their words of encouragement, reminding everyone of the faculty’s journey, its achievements, and the shared responsibility to continue striving for excellence without resting on past successes.

The dinner too was an appreciation to all adjunct lecturers from the Ministry of Health who contributed to the medical and nursing programmes in the faculty. Among those who were present were Dr. Frederick De Rozario, Dr. Pubalan Muniandy, Dr. Nik Azim, Dr Rosliwati Md Yusoff, Madam Sengah, Madam Tay, Madam Salti and Madam Saptuyah. Matron Grace represented the director of Bau Hospital, Dr Jasmany Liboh.

What made the night truly memorable was its rich array of programmes, far beyond a dinner and a few performances. Besides the presentation of academic awards, the evening featured eight karaoke performances, each competing for the titles of Best Vocal and Best Performance. Without doubt, the Best Vocal award went to Dr Siti Zaleha binti Raduan, who delivered a captivating rendition of “Menamakanmu Cinta” by Dato’ Dr Siti Nurhaliza. The Best Performance award was won by Kumpulan K.R.W., consisting of the trio Mr Mohammad Rozaiman, Mr Zairulajib and Mr Mohammad Hazrim. They wowed every diner in the hall with their lively 60s “pop yeh yeh” number, “Keindahan Pantai” by M. Shariff, performed in the style popularised by the rock band the “Kristal”.

While the other performers did not win, their bravery and confidence to perform in public and their willingness to entertain the guests were truly commendable. They were:

  • Assoc Prof Dr William Lim, who performed “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical Les Misérables
  • Mr Tinggal bin Mohamad, who performed “Hai Kuo Tian Kong” by the band Beyond
  • Dr Siti Zaleha binti Reduan and Puan Whilemena Upam anak Herman Ulok, who performed “Sway” by Michael Bublé

The pinnacle of the night was the announcement of the King and Queen of the Night, awarded to Dr Muhammad Wahizul Haswan b Abdul Aziz and Dr Asheila Meramat respectively. Their outfits were undeniably glamorous, perfectly befitting the theme of the evening.

The evening also carried a touch of melancholy with the acknowledgement of retiring staff, namely Prof Dr Nor Aliza binti Abdul Rahim and Assoc Prof Dr William Lim.
