Dr Syazwani Isa, a trainee lecturer from the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), UNIMAS, was awarded Second Prize in the prestigious MSA-CoA Award 2026 for her oral scientific presentation entitled “The Unspoken Reality: Survey on Second Victim Experiences and Support Systems Among Anaesthesiology Doctors in Malaysia.”

The study was conducted in collaboration with Associate Professor Dr Samuel Tsan and fellow researchers, addressing the often-overlooked phenomenon of healthcare professionals who experience emotional and psychological distress following adverse clinical events. The research highlights the importance of support systems and institutional strategies to safeguard the well-being of anaesthesiology practitioners, ultimately contributing to safer and more resilient healthcare delivery.

The award was presented during the MSA and CoA, AMM Annual Scientific Congress 2026, held from 31 July to 2 August 2026, bringing together leading anaesthesiologists, clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals from across the country. Competing alongside high-quality submissions from institutions nationwide, the achievement reflects the strength of research and academic leadership within UNIMAS and its Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

This recognition underscores UNIMAS’ commitment to advancing impactful medical research, fostering innovation, and nurturing future academic leaders. The success of Dr Syazwani Isa and Associate Professor Dr Samuel Tsan serves as an inspiration to the university community and exemplifies UNIMAS’ continued pursuit of excellence in research, education, and healthcare.
