Professor Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit, Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS, warmly greets Professor Wu Jian, Vice President of South China Normal University and Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, during their visit to UNIMAS.

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 18 January 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) hosted a delegation from the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, South China Normal University (SCNU), yesterday at the UNIMAS Staff Lounge. The visit was part of SCNU’s efforts to foster greater collaboration and understanding with UNIMAS.

The SCNU delegation, led by Professor Wu Jian, Vice President of SCNU and Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, was warmly welcomed by UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit. Also present to receive the delegation were Thian Foong Fatt, Director of UNIMAS Global; Dr Kiky Kirina Abdillah, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr Dilah Tuah, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Language and Communication; Associate Professor Dr Puah Chin Hong, Director of UNIMAS Business School; and the Director of the Institute for Tourism Research and Innovation.

The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between UNIMAS and SCNU by exploring opportunities for academic cooperation, talent development, and global networking. The SCNU delegation also gained insights into the history, development, and academic programmes offered by UNIMAS.

The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts between Professor Wu Jian and Professor Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit, symbolising mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to future collaborations.

The SCNU delegation comprised 11 members, including professors, researchers, and postgraduate students from the Center for Southeast Asian Studies and the School of International Culture at SCNU.

This visit underscores UNIMAS’ dedication to building strong international partnerships and enhancing its role as a globally recognised institution of higher learning.
