KUCHING, 18 DECEMBER 2024 – Digital innovation continues to transform the healthcare landscape, and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), is leading the charge in Sarawak. With patient care at the forefront, the teams have unveiled the Bed Management Monitoring Dashboard—a game-changing solution designed to streamline patient flow and optimize hospital resources.
Building on the success of the Patient Tracking System implemented in 2022, this latest project represents an important step forward. Developed by a dedicated team from UNIMAS’s Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI), the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), and the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences (FMHS), the system was tailored to address the unique needs of SGH.
The dashboard provides real-time updates on bed availability and hospital occupancy, empowering staff with accurate data to make informed decisions. It also simplifies routine reporting tasks, allowing healthcare professionals to focus on what matters most—delivering exceptional care to patients.
“By offering a clear picture of bed usage and patient flow, the system helps hospital staff manage admissions, transfers, and discharges more efficiently,” said Professor Dr. Fitri Suraya Mohamad Hapni Joblie, UNIMAS Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), during the handover ceremony. “It’s not just about technology; it’s about making daily work easier and improving outcomes for both patients and staff.”
The ceremony, held at SGH, celebrated the collaboration between UNIMAS and SGH. Key attendees included representatives from UNIMAS—Professor Dr. Fitri Suraya Mohamad Hapni Joblie, Professor Dr. Tan Chong Eng (Director of ISITI), Dr. Lau Sei Ping, Associate Professor Dr. Jacey-Lynn Minoi, Associate Professor Dr. Stephanie Chua Hui Li, and Mr. Dev Nath Kaushal. SGH was represented by Dr. Wong Kee Ging (SGH Deputy Director, Medical), Dr. Chan Hiang Chuan (Head of Emergency and Trauma Department), Matron Siswanita, and other distinguished members of the hospital team.
Five new computer systems equipped with the dashboard have been installed in critical units such as the Bed Management Unit and Emergency and Trauma Department. These tools provide hospital teams with instant access to essential information, enhancing responsiveness during critical moments.
“This marks another milestone in our commitment to digital healthcare solutions,” shared Dr. Chan Hiang Chuan, SGH Emergency and Trauma Department Head. “We look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on patient care and hospital efficiency.”
The success of this project underscores the power of partnerships in driving meaningful innovation. UNIMAS and SGH aim to continue their collaboration, exploring new ways to advance healthcare delivery in Sarawak.
