Universiti Malaysia Sarawak students from the Faculty of Economics and Business embarked on an enriching Experiential Learning Journey to the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on the 14th May 2026 from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM. The educational visit involved 94 Year 3 Corporate Management programme students under the guidance of Dr. Nur Constance Wah and accompanied by Mdm Nordiana Ahmad Nordin.

The industrial and educational visit aimed to bridge classroom learning with real-world governance practices by exposing students to the operations and functions of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUNS). During the session, students had the opportunity to observe live legislative proceedings on the 9th Floor of DUNS and gain deeper insights into public administration, policy debates, and state governance mechanisms.

The objectives of the programme were to expose students to the role of legislative institutions in the administration of the Sarawak State Government, particularly in the process of policy formulation and law-making. Additionally, the programme is to enhance students’ understanding of DUNS sittings and parliamentary debate processes within the context of real public administration, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which promotes relevant and quality learning experiences.

The visit also encourages awareness of the importance of good governance in state development, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and finally, to develop students’ soft skills such as communication and leadership through active involvement in the planning and execution of the Industrial Visit programme.

The delegation expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Professor Dr. Dayang Affizzah binti Awang Marikan, for her continuous encouragement and full support in making the programme a success. We would like to extend our appreciation to the faculty administration for their unwavering support.

The experiential learning initiative reflects the Faculty’s ongoing commitment to producing holistic graduates equipped not only with theoretical knowledge but also with practical exposure to leadership, governance, and strategic decision-making in real institutional settings.
