Kota Samarahan, 11 April 2026 – The UNIMAS Medical Society (UNIMED) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), successfully hosted the “UNIMED Frontline Magazine Launching”, held at the Bilik Seminar, Aras G, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The event marked a significant milestone in showcasing student voices, creativity, and academic expression within the faculty.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Professor Dr. Fitri Suraya binti Mohamad Hapni Joblie, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, alongside Professor Dr. Asri bin Said, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor Dr. Nariman Singmamae, Deputy Dean (Academic and International), and a representative from the Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar Session (MPP) 2025/2026, Brice Bellamy Lumbai Anak Philip. The event was officially launched with an inspiring address that highlighted the importance of academic writing, student engagement, and collaborative platforms in nurturing well-rounded healthcare professionals.

The programme was organised by UNIMED and attended by approximately 75 participants, consisting of Year 1 and Year 2 students from both the Medical and Nursing programmes. The event aligns with the goals of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting its commitment to promoting knowledge-sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The launching ceremony celebrated the official release of the UNIMED Frontline Magazine, a student-led initiative aimed at providing a platform for medical and nursing students to share insights, experiences, and perspectives related to healthcare and student life. The programme featured a welcoming speech by Ms. Nur Natasha binti Ramzan, Chief Editor of the UNIMED Frontline Magazine, followed by addresses from the Dean and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International). The highlight of the event was the official launching gimmick, marking the release of the magazine, followed by its presentation to the distinguished guest and a group photography session.

Throughout the event, participants were introduced to the vision and mission behind the magazine, as well as the efforts and dedication of the editorial team in bringing the publication to life. The initiative serves as a stepping stone in encouraging students to engage in academic writing, creative expression, and professional development beyond the classroom.

The event was led by Programme Director Barvesh A/L Suresh Jesus, a Year 2 medical student, whose leadership and commitment ensured the smooth execution of the programme.

UNIMED extends its heartfelt appreciation to all distinguished guests, organisers, and participants who contributed to the success of the event. Their collective efforts have made the launch a meaningful and memorable occasion for the faculty community.
