
An academic delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) conducted a two-day visit on 30–31 March 2026 to Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, reflecting the university’s strong commitment to elevating nursing education to a global standard. The visit was led by Prof. Dr. Asri Said, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, alongside Prof. Dr. Nariman Singmamae, Deputy Dean (Academic and International), Mdm Dayang Zuraina Abang Haji Kashim, Head of Nursing Department, Dr. Mohammed Rasheedan, Senior Lecturer and Chairperson of the 4th International Nursing Students’ Conference, Mr. Md Fadlisham Samsuddin, Programme Coordinator, and Mdm Suhazalita, Personal Assistant to the Dean.
The engagement provided a valuable platform for bilateral exchange of knowledge and best practices in the design and delivery of nursing education programmes, spanning diploma, advanced diploma, bachelor’s, and postgraduate levels, including the Doctor of Nursing Practice. Both institutions shared insights into curriculum innovation, clinical training models, simulation-based learning, and strategies to enhance student competency in line with evolving healthcare demands.
A roundtable discussion further explored pressing global issues in nursing and healthcare, including the worldwide nursing shortage, emerging health challenges, workforce sustainability, and the transformation of healthcare delivery models. The dialogue also highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, digital health integration, and strengthening the role of nurses in leadership and policy-making.
In addition, both parties expressed strong interest in fostering future collaborations through joint research initiatives, co-authored publications, academic staff exchanges, and potential student mobility programmes. The visit also opened avenues for organising joint conferences and developing dual or joint academic programmes, reinforcing regional and international partnerships. Overall, the visit marks a significant step forward in UNIMAS’ strategic efforts to internationalise its nursing programmes and enhance its academic and research excellence on the global stage.
