Singapore, 31 March 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) has taken a significant step in advancing nursing education by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National University Hospital (National University Hospital) at the NUH Tower. The agreement formalizes a partnership designed to foster professional development, research collaboration, and international engagement in nursing.

The collaboration will focus on knowledge exchange programs, facilitating the sharing of best practices, clinical guidelines, and innovative teaching methods to strengthen nursing education. Staff and student mobility initiatives will provide opportunities for experiential learning in diverse clinical and academic environments, while joint research and publication projects will address contemporary healthcare challenges and promote evidence-based practice.

Representing UNIMAS was Profesor Dr. Asri Said, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, while NUH was represented by Adjunct Associate Professor Dr. Karen Koh, Chief Nurse. Dr. Asri highlighted that the relationship with NUH is not new, noting that the partnership began in 2004 and has been instrumental in enhancing nursing education, particularly through initiatives such as student conferences. Both representatives emphasized the potential of the renewed collaboration to meet the growing demand for skilled nurses, enhance professionalism, and prepare a workforce capable of delivering high-quality patient care across global contexts.

“Through this collaboration, UNIMAS seeks to expand its global network and increase the visibility of its nursing program, while nurturing nurses who are competent, adaptable, and committed to lifelong learning,” said Profesor Dr. Asri Said.

The MoU aligns with UNIMAS’ vision of developing healthcare professionals who are globally competitive and socially responsible. By strengthening international engagement, UNIMAS continues to position its nursing program at the forefront of professional excellence, research innovation, and global recognition.
