Assoc Prof Dr Paul Cliff Simon Divis has been selected among the Finalists of the Study UK Alumni Awards 2026 (Social Action Category) in recognition of his efforts to translate laboratory-based malaria research into meaningful social action that benefits communities in Sarawak. He is a proud alumnus of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), where his training helped shape his strong foundation in malaria research and public health.

His work has also attracted positive attention from fellow evaluators for its strong emphasis on translating laboratory science into social action with measurable community impact. The recognition was announced during the Study UK Alumni Awards 2026 Gala Dinner at the Renaissance Hotel on 27 January 2026, organised by British Council Malaysia, celebrating alumni who studied in the United Kingdom and are making meaningful contributions to their communities.

Through the “HapusMalaria programme, supported by Ministry of Finance Malaysia and UNIMAS Sustainability Centre with the collaboration with Sarawak State Health Department, research findings are translated into community-centred interventions using gamified learning tools, storytelling, and culturally inspired activities. Implemented in the highly endemic Kapit Division and extended to remote Penan communities, the programme has improved awareness, preventive practices, and community ownership of malaria control. A key feature of the initiative is the empowerment of women as family and neighbourhood health advisors, recognising their important role in guiding household health decisions and sustaining prevention efforts in Sarawak.
