As part of the Seminar on Cognition and Artificial Intelligence 2025 (SoCo-AI’25), the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), successfully organised an exclusive community workshop titled “AI on the Go: Learn Face & Motion Detection with Your Mobile” on 22 October 2025.

The workshop brought together 33 students and 2 teachers from SMK Kota Samarahan, alongside 11 UNIMAS staff participants, for an interactive, hands-on session introducing the fundamentals and practical applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Through demonstrations and guided activities, participants learned how AI can be applied for face and motion detection directly on mobile devices, making complex concepts both accessible and engaging for young learners.

The event commenced with a welcoming address by Dr Wan Norizan Wan Hashim, Deputy Dean (Industry Engagement & Community), FCSHD, UNIMAS, who emphasised the significance of community collaboration in cultivating digital awareness and fostering early interest in AI technology among youth.

The workshop was led by Ts. Syed Zaini Aljamalullail, Executive Director of T-Robot Sdn. Bhd., and supported by Mr Alexius Yngwie Noeb, Technical Engineer at T-Robot. Their expertise provided participants with practical insights into AI’s real-world applications, allowing students to observe firsthand how technology responds to human actions through motion tracking and facial recognition.

This invitation-only workshop also strengthened the university’s engagement with the local community, demonstrating UNIMAS’s commitment to promoting digital literacy and technology empowerment among the younger generation in Sarawak.

The programme was made possible through the collaboration of the UNIMAS Chief Digital Officer’s Office, UNIMAS Business School, and TVS (TV Sarawak), with support from the UNIMAS Leadership Center (ULC), TalentCorp, BWS Engineering Sdn. Bhd., the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service, and Business Events Sarawak (BE Sarawak) under the Sarawak Convention Bureau.

The AI on the Go workshop reflects UNIMAS’s continuous efforts to bridge education, innovation, and community engagement, successfully equipping young participants with the skills and inspiration to become future innovators in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
