Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the International Pepper Community (IPC) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS, today. The agreement was signed by Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit of UNIMAS and IPC’s Executive Director, Madam Firna Azura Ekaputri Hj Marzuki.
The ceremony was attended by UNIMAS Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof Ir. Ts. Dr Al-Khalid bin Haji Othman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Prof Ir. Dr Siti Noor Linda binti Taib, deans, academicians, representatives from IPC, members of the press, and UNIMAS staff.
This MoU focuses on strengthening and promoting collaboration between IPC and UNIMAS, particularly with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). It aims to foster mutual benefits in areas such as business knowledge, joint programmes, student career development, faculty and staff exchanges, research initiatives, and other strategic partnerships.
In his welcoming speech, UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor expressed his appreciation to the IPC delegation and congratulated the Faculty of Economics and Business for organising the successful event. He emphasised the university’s commitment to collaboration and cooperation, aligned with its core values of unity and partnership. He highlighted that the expertise and experience from IPC would significantly benefit UNIMAS, particularly in providing business students with practical exposure and networking opportunities.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the collaboration would equip students and academic staff with essential corporate knowledge to face a challenging and competitive work environment. The MoU underscores the importance of undertaking research and development activities, academic and industrial knowledge sharing, and facilitating internships and recruitment arrangements for students. He also stressed that this agreement would enhance educational and research efforts through joint projects, faculty exchanges, and strategic alliances.
“This MoU reflects our mission to go beyond theoretical discussions in the classroom and embrace real-world applications, benefiting both academia and the community,” he added.
The ceremony concluded with a gift exchange between the Vice-Chancellor and Madam Firna Azura Ekaputri, symbolising the start of a promising partnership.
