The Human Resource Development (HRD) Club of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), in collaboration with SK Catholic English (M), successfully organised the Leadership Camp: A Journey to Lead on 26 April 2025. This initiative aimed to cultivate leadership skills and foster personal development among young learners, providing them with the tools to become confident leaders and effective team players.

The half-day camp gathered enthusiastic students for a series of activities designed to inspire, challenge, and teach them about the values of leadership, teamwork, and self-confidence. The event represented a collaborative effort to bridge the gap between higher education institutions and primary schools, highlighting UNIMAS’ commitment to community engagement and the development of future leaders.

The camp began with an ice-breaking session, helping participants form new friendships and foster a sense of community. Following this, a group chanting activity energised the group and showcased the creativity and unity of the participants. In the next module, Pull-Pen & Multi-Drawer, students took part in teamwork challenges that tested their ability to communicate effectively, plan strategically, and think critically under pressure.

The highlight of the camp was the Menara Impian tower-building exercise, which required students to work together to construct a structure using limited materials. This activity emphasised the importance of trust, teamwork, and shared vision—key components of successful leadership.

Throughout the day, members of the HRD Club served as facilitators, guiding the students with expertise and enthusiasm. Their role was vital in creating an atmosphere where participants felt encouraged to push their boundaries, communicate openly, and engage with their peers. The camp culminated in a closing ceremony, where students were celebrated for their active participation and leadership growth.

The successful execution of the Leadership Camp: A Journey to Lead highlights the positive impact of collaboration between higher education institutions and local schools. It also exemplifies UNIMAS’ ongoing commitment to community engagement and youth development, offering valuable learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

This event serves as a reminder of the power of leadership in shaping young minds and the HRD Club’s continued dedication to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. By providing these opportunities, UNIMAS is contributing to the development of well-rounded individuals capable of making a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.
