The Faculty of Engineering’s Mentor-Mentee Unit hosted the Faculty of Engineering Mentor-Mentee Week from October 21 to October 25, 2024, during the third week of Semester 1 for the 2024/2025 academic session. This week-long initiative aimed to foster a supportive environment for first-year engineering students by encouraging strong mentor-mentee relationships across various departments, including Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The events and sessions were held in CTF1 rooms BP1, BP2, BP4, and BP5, providing accessible spaces for group discussions, mentorship activities, and guidance workshops. Special sessions for first-year students were conducted as part of the PPD1041 (Soft Skills and Basics of Volunteering) course, ensuring that new students received dedicated support within their curriculum.

The mentor-mentee program’s primary objective is to create a nurturing and collaborative environment where mentors support mentees in adapting to university life and academic demands. Through one-on-one interactions and group meetings, mentors offer valuable advice on study techniques, time management, and personal development strategies, empowering mentees to set realistic academic and personal goals. This structured mentorship helps mentees navigate academic challenges with greater confidence and resilience. By fostering open channels of communication, the program also encourages mentees to actively seek guidance, enhancing their motivation, engagement, and self-assurance as they adjust to university learning. Through continuous dialogue, the program promotes academic success and builds a foundation of mutual trust and support among students, ultimately contributing to a more cohesive engineering community.
