On 12 November 2024, the Politics and Government Studies Program, in collaboration with Sekolah Kebangsaan Jaong, succussfully conducted a knowledge-sharing programme aimed at enhancing learning, strengthening community engagement, and promoting social responsibility through collaborative initiatives. The project, guided by two esteemed advisors Professor Datu Dr Neilson Ilan Mersat and Dr Leha Saliman, was part of the Faculty of Social Sciences’ ongoing University Social Responsibility programme.

A key highlight of the programme was an educational talk delivered by Dr Leha Saliman, the programe coordinator for the Politics and Government Studies Programme at FSSH, UNIMAS, and Mr Mungo Entalai, the headmaster of SK Jaong. Their engaging sessions aimed to inspire the students and to enhance the sense of community-driven learning among participants.

The event also featured a series of interactive activities designed to create fun learning and conducive environment for students. These activities were thoughtfully structured to encourage active participation, stimulate creativity and build teamwork skills, leaving lasting impact on the young learners.

The project was supported by eight lecturers from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, along with 24 dedicated members of the PolGov Society Exco, who served as facilitators. Their efforts ensured meaningful interactions and impactful sessions throughout the programme.

In total, the programme attracted 104 participants, including 18 teachers and administrative staff as well as 86 pupils from SK Jaong, ranging from preschool to Year 6. Students were grouped for interactive activities, enabling collaborations and maximizing learning opportunities while maintaining an enjoyable atmosphere.

This successful initiative highlights the importance of partnerships between universities and local communities in fostering education, social responsibility and meaningful engagement. It also highlights UNIMAS’ commitment to empowering communities through knowledge- sharing and collaborative efforts, in line with UNIMAS’ tagline of a community-driven University for a sustainable world.
