The Department of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, successfully organised its Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition in conjunction with NURCOL 2026 (Final Year Nursing Students’ Research Colloquium Week 2026). The competition marked a significant milestone for the department as it provided a platform for final-year nursing students to communicate their research projects to a broader audience in a clear, engaging, and concise manner. Adapted from the internationally recognised 3MT format, the competition challenged students to present the significance and impact of their research within just three minutes, while maintaining clarity, accuracy, and audience engagement.
The primary objective of the 3MT competition was to strengthen students’ research communication skills and their ability to translate complex research findings into messages that can be easily understood by diverse audiences. Through this activity, students were encouraged to think critically about the relevance of their work, refine their presentation skills, and develop greater confidence in public speaking. The competition also served as an avenue to cultivate future nursing leaders who are capable of advocating for evidence-based practice and effectively disseminating research findings to stakeholders, healthcare professionals, and the community.
The presentations showcased a wide range of contemporary nursing and healthcare topics, including community nursing, psychological well-being, communicable diseases, and other areas relevant to improving patient care and health outcomes. The high quality of presentations demonstrated the students’ commitment to research and their ability to contribute meaningful insights to the nursing profession.

Following a competitive and inspiring session, Diviana Evy Uteh Anak Mungsan emerged as the Champion, while Nur Najwa Nabilah Badrul Hisham was awarded First Runner-Up and Saiful Aizam Sahelin received the Second Runner-Up award. The competition was evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges comprising external and internal experts, namely Professor Cheah Whye Lian from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UNIMAS, Mdm Nurul Huzaimah Hussien, representatives from the Faculty of Education, Language and Communication, UNIMAS, and Madam Lydia Dahlia Dahlan from UiTM Cawangan Sarawak.

The Department of Nursing extends its heartfelt appreciation to the judges, supervisors, organising committee, and students whose dedication and enthusiasm contributed to the success of this inaugural event. The 3MT Competition not only celebrated the research achievements of final-year nursing students but also reinforced the department’s commitment to nurturing graduates who are confident, articulate, and capable of translating research into meaningful improvements in healthcare practice.
