KUCHING, 1 February 2026 — An international community service programme brought together students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Politeknik Negeri Padang, Indonesia, to inspire creativity, digital skills, and early exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI) among primary school pupils at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Muhibbah.
The programme combined technology education with meaningful volunteer work, creating a holistic learning experience for both pupils and university students.
A total of 21 pupils took part in an interactive workshop where they were introduced to basic AI-related thinking through a game interface design activity using Figma.

Guided by the visiting students from Politeknik Negeri Padang, the pupils designed the user interface (UI) of a simple highway vehicle-dodging game prototype.
The hands-on activity encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and digital design skills, while subtly introducing concepts related to AI and how technology can be used to create interactive digital experiences.
The pupils showed high levels of enthusiasm and active participation throughout the session.
While the technology workshop was underway, UNIMAS students and lecturers, together with teachers from SK Muhibbah, participated in a gotong-royong activity to enhance the school environment.
The collaborative effort included cleaning classrooms, organising learning materials, and carrying out minor maintenance works to create a more comfortable and conducive learning space for pupils.
The programme not only benefitted the school community but also strengthened cross-cultural collaboration and social responsibility among the participating university students.
By working together across borders, the students gained valuable experience in teamwork, communication, and community engagement beyond the classroom.
Overall, the initiative reflects the shared commitment of UNIMAS and Politeknik Negeri Padang to promote educational empowerment, digital literacy, and international partnership.
Through creative learning and community service, the programme successfully demonstrated how global collaboration can make a meaningful impact at the grassroots level.
