KOTA SAMARAHAN, 17 December 2025 – In conjunction with Volunteerism Day under the course Softskills and Basic Volunteerism (PPD1041), group 2 students from FMHS were successfully completed a community service project focused on cleaning and beautify the Clinical Simulator Centre (CSC) and Prayer Hall of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).
The project, which focused on cleaning, maintaining key facilities, and beautifying the CSC and Prayer Hall, was conducted under the supervision of the project facilitator, Dr Muhammad Wahizul Haswan B. Abdul Aziz, and was assisted by the CSC Coordinator, Madam Salmah Binti Ahmad, and the CSC Medical Assistant, Mr Zulhata Bin Suhai. The initiative was led by Alexis Axel Anak Jackson, assisted by Marylend Sonia Jong and supported by other committee members who contributed throughout the planning and implementation phases.
Prior to the execution of the project, the students held several planning discussions to outline ideas, assign tasks and identify necessary materials for the improvement of both facilities. A site inspection of both facilities was conducted by the students with the help of Madam Salmah and Mr Zulhata. All proposed plans were presented to Dr Muhammad Wahizul Haswan B Abdul Aziz to obtain feedback and approval. Following his positive response and suggestions, the group proceeded with the project as planned.
The project took place on 10 December 2025 (Wednesday) at 2pm where students carried out cleaning and beautifying works. Activities included painting the outer wall of CSC and the wall of wudu’ area in prayer hall, cleaning of mannequins, washing of prayer hall’s curtains and ‘telekung’, and clearance of unused materials.
The project concluded on 10 December 2025 (Wednesday) at 4.45 pm with an officiating closing held at the faculty. The project was officially closed by Dr Wahizul, who expressed his appreciation for the students’ initiative and commitment. He highlighted the importance of maintaining functional and conducive spaces for all students and staff within the faculty.
Overall, this initiative successfully demonstrated and provided the students’ personal and social skills through collaboration, leadership, and shared responsibility where the small act of service when carried out with heart and teamwork, can create a meaningful impact on the community and nurture socially responsible future healthcare professionals. The improved CSC and prayer hall are expected to benefit the staffs and students within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
