KOTA SAMARAHAN, 13 December 2025 – In a meaningful display of volunteerism and teamwork, Group 4 students from the Softskills and Basic Volunteerism (PPD1041) course successfully completed a community service project focused on cleaning and decorating the meeting room and storage room of the Postgraduate Association (PGMED), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

The project, which focused on cleaning, organising and decorating the PGMED meeting room and storage room was conducted under the supervision of the project facilitator, Dr Dayang Erna Zulaikha bt Awang Hamsin. The initiative was led by Haziq Zulkarnain Bin Khairullah, assisted by Louiseana Lengau Anak Munang and supported by other committee members who contributed throughout the planning and implementation phases.

Prior to the execution of the project, the students held several planning discussions to outline ideas, assign tasks and identify necessary materials for the improvement of both rooms. All proposed plans were presented to Dr Dayang Erna Zulaikha bt Awang Hamsin as well as the President of PGMED, Dr Peter, to obtain feedback and approval. Following their positive response and suggestions, the group proceeded with the project as planned.

The first phase of the project took place on 6 December 2025 (Saturday), during which students carried out cleaning and reorganisation works. Activities included sorting and arranging stored items, clearing unused materials, rearranging furniture and adding simple decorative elements to create a more organised and comfortable environment.

The project concluded on 10 December 2025 (Wednesday)with an officiating ceremony held at the faculty. The upgraded facilities were officially launched by Dr Peter, who expressed his appreciation for the students’ initiative and commitment. He highlighted the importance of maintaining functional and conducive spaces to support postgraduate activities and engagement within the faculty.

Overall, the project provided students with valuable experience in planning, teamwork and leadership, while also strengthening their sense of responsibility towards the faculty community. The improved PGMED meeting and storage rooms are expected to benefit postgraduate members and support future activities within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
