KOTA SAMARAHAN, 28 October – Embracing the concept of enjoyable and meaningful classroom experiences, the Faculty of Education, Language and Communication (FELC) proudly joined the Festival of Ideas @ Sarawak X Pesta Buku Borneo 2025, held from 22 to 26 October at DeTAR PUTRA, UNIMAS. The festival, open to the public, featured a lively lineup of events from book fairs by established publishers to engaging talks by renowned speakers, as well as forums celebrating literature, languages, and cultural narratives.

In line with the festival’s spirit, the FELC booth aimed to empower literacy and creativity through a series of fun and interactive activities focused on language and education. Visitors enjoyed hands-on experiences such as Chinese Calligraphy & Origami Art, Dice & Think About Solat, Shoot: Bersih Itu Sebahagian Daripada Iman, Picture This!, Guessmoji, Spin the Wheel, Kuiz Peribahasa, Belajar Nusantara and more. The crowd favourite? The board games corner, which drew laughter and excitement from participants of all ages.

These activities were enthusiastically led by FELC’s dedicated staff and students, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere that attracted visitors from diverse backgrounds.

Adding to the highlights, the booth also proudly showcased our InTeX 2025 award-winning researchers, including Prof. Ting Su Hie with ‘Happy Scroll: Telling the Mood of your Scrolling’ and ‘Lengilo Archive’, Prof. Dr. Soubakeavathi Rethinasamy with ‘EduTour Xplore’, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norazuna Norahim with ‘Documenting Underresourced Language of Sarawak’, Dr. Soo Ruey Shing with ‘From Q Methodology to Q Pedagogy: Enhancing Undergraduates’ Class Participation Through the Power of Subjectivity, and last but not least Mdm. Siti Haslina Hussin with Modul Inovasi Sabun daripada Minyak Masak Terpakai: Sayangi Alam, Jimat Belanja dan Jana Pendapatan. Alongside, scholarly books authored by FELC members are also displayed including Bunga Rampai by Dr. Dilah Tuah, Let’s Learn Arabic Language Level 3 by Ustaz Yahya Al-Bakri, and several others.

FELC’s involvement extended beyond the booth where our Dean, Dr Dilah Tuah and several faculty members, Dr Amee Joan and Encik Muhammad Qhidir were invited as panelists for “Bedah Buku: Bicara di Sebalik Lembaran” and “Telaah Bicara Buku: Bersama Penulis.” The faculty also co-organised Malam Puisi Lentera 2025 in collaboration with UNIMAS Publisher and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, as part of the larger festival celebration.

The opening ceremony was graced by Yang Berbahagia Datuk Profesor Dr. Azlinda Azman, Director General of Higher Education, representing Yang Berhormat Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Minister of Higher Education. The event was a success where it gathered the elements of a joyful convergence of knowledge, creativity, and community spirit.
