The UNIMAS Medical Society (UNIMED), in partnership with Kelab Perubatan UNIMAS (KEPUMAS) and the Postgraduate Association FMHS (PGMED), successfully hosted the FMHS Smash Masters 2025 at Arena Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang. This event marked the revival of a long-awaited faculty-level badminton tournament, which had not taken place since 2016.
This year’s tournament aimed to enhance relationships among undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and both academic and administrative staff within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS). To promote camaraderie and inclusivity, participants were organized into randomly assigned teams, fostering collaboration beyond their usual social groups. Additionally, the event provided an enjoyable opportunity to promote physical fitness and well-being among all faculty members and students.

The FMHS Smash Masters 2025 featured two categories of competition: the Open Category, which included Men’s and Women’s Doubles, and the Association Category that involved teams from UNIMED, KEPUMAS, and PGMED. The matches were characterized by enthusiasm, laughter, and sportsmanship, highlighting not only athletic skill but also the unity and spirit prevalent within the FMHS community.
Prof. Dr. Asri bin Said, Dean of FMHS, praised this initiative for its importance in strengthening faculty relationships while promoting a healthy lifestyle. He noted that consistent participation in sports can help address the growing rates of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Malaysia, such as hypertension and diabetes.

The success of this revived tournament was attributed to the commitment and teamwork of the UNIMED Sports and Recreation Bureau, along with an organizing committee that included undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as staff. Their careful planning ensured a seamless and enjoyable experience for all attendees. Their contributions have laid a solid groundwork for continuing this significant tradition in future years.
A representative from UNIMED stated, “FMHS Smash Masters 2025 signifies the return of a tradition that celebrates health, unity, and friendship. We aspire to motivate more students and staff to remain active and engaged through sports.”
As the day concluded, FMHS Smash Masters 2025 emerged as a proud symbol of dedication to cultivating a healthy and supportive academic community, unified by a shared purpose.
