The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) proudly ushers in the 2025/2026 academic session with the arrival of 527 new students. This vibrant cohort reflects Malaysia’s diversity, with 359 students from Sarawak, 112 from Sabah, 6 from Labuan, and 50 from Peninsular Malaysia, all ready to begin their exciting university journey at UNIMAS.

This year, FSSH also welcomes nine students with special needs, reflecting the faculty’s and university’s commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

The orientation week was filled with energy as new students took part in a range of activities designed to help them adapt to campus life. One of these activities is the Hari Bersama Fakulti, which was held on 30th September 2025. This session introduced the students to the Faculty, the Faculty members, with academic briefings and motivational sessions and interactive ice-breakers. They were introduced to the dynamic learning culture that defines FSSH.

In her welcoming remarks, Dr Kiky Kirina Abdillah, Dean of FSSH, congratulated both new and returning students as the semester begins. “We are delighted to see new faces joining our FSSH family, and equally pleased to welcome back our returning students who continue to inspire the faculty with their dedication and creativity. Together, let us make this academic year one of growth, exploration, and positive impact,” she said.

Deputy Dean (Undergraduate), Dr Athirah Azhar, also welcomed the students and reminded them about the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their studies, emphasizing the importance of following university guidelines to ensure ethical and authentic academic work. Dr Nur Auni Ugong, Deputy Dean HEPA, did a sharing students’ activities, and welfare assistance.

Dr Kiky with Steven Lias Anak Sidi, who is fully blind. He hails from Julau and is the first in his family to study at a university.

As classes officially commence this week, the faculty looks forward to a semester rich in learning and collaboration. Students can expect to engage in fieldwork, community-based projects, and research activities that connect classroom theory with real-world practice, in line with FSSH’s mission to nurture thoughtful, skilled, and socially conscious graduates.

The returning students have also played an important role in welcoming the newcomers, offering guidance and sharing their experiences. Their enthusiasm and kindness reflect the supportive community spirit that FSSH is proud of.

With 527 new faces and the return of many familiar ones, FSSH is ready to embark on another meaningful academic year: one that celebrates learning, friendship, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Welcome to FSSH — where ideas grow, people connect, and futures begin.
