SLUSE (Sustainable Land Use and Natural Resource Management) Master programme, which is jointly offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) and the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST), is a capacity building academic programme for the promotion of sustainable land use and natural resource management in Malaysia. The programme has recently carried out a Curriculum Review (CRM) exercise to review and update its curriculum.

The curriculum review is part of SLUSE’s commitment to ensure its programme remains relevant to today’s needs in sustainability, land use, and natural resource management. In this round, input was gathered from its Industrial Advisory Panel (IAPs). The aim is to make sure the programme continues to meet both academic standards and the expectations of the industry, employers and communities.

The appointed IAPs are:

(i) Datu Haji Hamden Bin Haji Mohammad, Director, Sarawak Forestry Department

(ii) Datu Jack anak Liam, Controller, Natural Resources & Environment Board, Sarawak (NREB)

(iii) Mr Eddy Nayoi, District Officer, Bau District Office

(iv) Mr Joseph Blandoi, General Manager, Sarawak Land Consolidation & Rehabilitation Authority (SALCRA)

(v) Mr Vincent Ting Mui Soon, Director, Envisar Sdn Bhd

(vi) Mr Abang Arabi Abang Aimran, General Manager, Sarawak Forestry Corporation

(vii) Dr Mohamad Arfan Johari, Head of Section, Smallholder Extension & Certification, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Research Station Sessang, Sarawak

(viii) Mr Saiful Bahari Amra Ramly, Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs Division, Land Custody & Development Authority (LCDA), Sarawak

The SLUSE programme is known for its hands-on learning approach, especially through fieldwork that connects students directly with real-world sustainability challenges in Sarawak. The CQI process helps strengthen this tradition while introducing new improvements for the future.

Through this review, SLUSE continues to improve its teaching and learning, making sure graduates are well-prepared to tackle sustainability challenges in Malaysia, ASEAN, and beyond. Both coordinators, Associate Professior Dr Wong Swee Kiong (FSSH) and Dr Siti Nurbaidzuri binti Reli@Raily (FSTS), expressed their thanks to the IAPs for the commitment and contribution in ensuring the success of the curriculum review.
