On 22 August 2025, the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD), UNIMAS, together with the Perkumpulan Kolaborasi Akademisi Magister Manajemen Nusantara Bagian Barat (PKMMB)—a consortium of 12 Indonesian universities offering Master of Management programs—held an online international sharing session titled “Visual Comfort and Productivity: An Ergonomic Perspective.” The session, organised under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNIMAS and PKMMB, brought together 156 participants from both institutions.

The session featured a talk by Dr. Wan Norizan Wan Hashim, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean of Industry and Community Engagement, FCSHD. In her presentation, Dr. Wan Norizan introduced participants to the field of visual ergonomics, which examines how visual environments, users, and tasks can be aligned to reduce eye strain and improve overall productivity.

She highlighted the growing prevalence of Digital Eye Strain (DES), caused by prolonged use of digital devices without adequate breaks. Symptoms such as dry or tired eyes, blurred vision, headaches, neck strain, and eye irritation are increasingly common among digital users. To address these challenges, Dr. Wan Norizan shared several practical strategies: applying the 20-20-20 rule by looking at a distant object every 20 minutes, positioning screens at an optimal distance of 50–70 cm with a slight downward tilt, reducing glare through proper lighting and anti-glare filters, and maintaining eye moisture by blinking more frequently or using eye drops when necessary.

The program reflects UNIMAS’ commitment to strengthening international academic collaboration and creating opportunities for knowledge exchange in areas relevant to contemporary challenges. By focusing on visual ergonomics, the session encouraged participants to consider how small adjustments in daily digital practices can support both comfort and performance.
