Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to regional cooperation and global engagement by sending five students to represent the university at ASEAN Week 2025, hosted by FPT University in Da Nang, Vietnam. The programme takes place from 18 August to 21 August 2025 and the participation of UNIMAS students is fully sponsored by FPT University.

ASEAN Week 2025 is a prestigious regional platform that brings together students from across ASEAN member countries to celebrate diversity, exchange knowledge, and strengthen collaboration. The four-day programme features key highlights such as the ASEAN Culture Lab: Shared Stories, which provides a platform for students to present narratives from their own cultures, the Language and Cultures Workshop designed to deepen cross-cultural understanding, and ASEAN Night, a cultural showcase and talent exchange that reflects the richness of the region’s heritage.

The five UNIMAS students selected for this programme are Ahmad Nur Irfan Bin Amirruddin from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, A’lia Affiqah Binti Mohd Shahza Anuar from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Conrad Barneslee Anak Libio from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Nur Zulaika Zalia Binti Ahmad Talahah from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology, and Siti Aisyah Safiah Hassan from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology.

The Director of UNIMAS Global, Mr. Thian Foong Fatt, stated that the participation not only provides students with the opportunity to enhance their cross-cultural competencies but also equips them with valuable exposure that complements their academic development. He added that initiatives such as this align closely with the university’s aspiration to nurture globally minded graduates who are prepared to contribute meaningfully at both regional and international levels.

This initiative is also in line with UNIMAS’ commitment to supporting the broader ASEAN agenda, particularly in strengthening people-to-people connectivity and promoting mutual understanding among youths. With Malaysia holding the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, the involvement of UNIMAS students in ASEAN Week reflects the university’s role in advancing Malaysia’s leadership in promoting regional unity, collaboration, and shared prosperity.

Through this participation, UNIMAS reaffirms its role as a proactive contributor to ASEAN educational cooperation while offering its students transformative experiences beyond the classroom. The university is confident that the five students will serve as proud ambassadors, gaining new insights and skills to share with their peers upon their return.
