In a meaningful effort to support students and foster a culture of sustainability, the UNIMAS Medical Society (UNIMED), through its Welfare Bureau, successfully organised a clothes donation drive at Cempaka College and Rafflesia College of UNIMAS.

Held under the guidance of Dr. Siti Zaleha binti Raduan, the initiative reflects UNIMED’s continuing dedication to student welfare and environmental responsibility. With the rising cost of living and increasing awareness of sustainable practices, the programme aimed to provide practical assistance to students while promoting mindful consumption within the campus community.

More than 30 pieces of gently used clothing, ranging from daily wear and formal attire to traditional garments, were collected through generous contributions from UNIMAS students, staff, and members of the public. Each item was carefully sorted and displayed by a committed team of UNIMED volunteers to ensure a welcoming, respectful, and dignified experience for recipients.

Distribution booths were set up at both residential colleges, where students were free to browse and select clothing that met their needs. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing heartfelt appreciation for the thoughtful and inclusive initiative. One student commented that such efforts help them feel seen and supported during challenging times.

“This drive is not just about clothes. It is about dignity, unity, and a reminder to our peers that no one is alone,” said Muhammad Haqqimil bin Yahya, Head of UNIMED’s Welfare Bureau for the 2024/2025 session. His words captured the heart of the initiative, which went far beyond clothing to offer a message of care and community.

In addition to supporting students, the donation drive also reinforced several key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), namely, SDG 1– No Poverty, SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, and SDG 12– Responsible Consumption and Production. UNIMED extends its deepest gratitude to all donors, volunteers, and committee members whose contributions and efforts made this initiative a success. As society continues to grow, it remains committed to advancing student welfare through initiatives that reflect compassion, sustainability, and unity.
