Andrey Sevenko grew up in Tudan, Miri, the eldest of five children in a modest household. His father is a labourer while his mother stays at home to care for the family. Life has never been easy, but from a young age, Andrey carried within him a quiet determination to change the trajectory of his family’s future. He knew that education was his way out – not just for himself, but for those he loves. After achieving an impressive CGPA of 3.8 at Matriculation Labuan, he kept pushing forward, working full-time at Everwin while balancing the weight of responsibility and ambition. His mother’s unwavering encouragement: “no matter how hard life gets, you keep going”, became a mantra he silently repeated through every challenge.
Despite a natural love for mathematics, Andrey pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering, guided in part by his father’s hopes for him. He doesn’t resent it; in fact, it’s become another way of honouring the sacrifices his parents made. In his free time, he doesn’t rest – he works, contributing to his family’s livelihood in whatever way he can. For Andrey, dreams aren’t abstract. They look like stability, dignity, and being able to give his siblings opportunities he never had. His greatest aspiration is simple yet profound: to secure a good-paying job that allows him to care for his family, to lift them out of hardship and into something better.
Andrey still remembers his first day on campus. “It felt huge,” he said, a mixture of awe and excitement in his voice. Today, he walks through the university grounds with purpose. His story is not just one of perseverance, but of the power of opportunity. UNIMAS didn’t just give him a place in a lecture hall – it gave him hope, direction, and the tools to build the life he has always dreamed of. Andrey’s journey is far from over, but he continues forward with one truth in his heart: education is not just about changing your life – it’s about transforming the lives of everyone you touch along the way.
