Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, 12 JUNE 2025 – Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) conducted the third session of its FMHS Research Cluster Series Workshop 2025 on 12 June, focusing on “Instrument (Data Collection) Development and Validation.”
Held at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), the full-day workshop brought together ~25 participants, aimed at supporting researchers and postgraduate students in developing reliable and valid research instruments.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Postgraduate Education Committee (PGMED) and the Medical Education Unit. Participants included postgraduate students, lecturers from FMHS, and early-career researchers involved in instrument-based studies.
The session was facilitated by Professor Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, a public health and biostatistics expert with a PhD in Statistics. He provided clear, step-by-step guidance on the development process of data collection tools. Topics included the definition and types of instruments, scaling techniques, content and face validation, reliability analysis, and construct validity. Participants engaged in hands-on SPSS exercises throughout the workshop. Sample data examples were used to make the sessions practical and relevant to current research needs.
The FMHS Research Cluster Series continues to provide opportunities for capacity building in health and medical research. More workshops are planned in the coming months.
