“Spark the Fire Within You” is a motivational workshop designed to enhance students’ perspectives and ignite their inner drive. The workshop aims to inspire students to be more motivated and proactive in their academic journey. Comprising three interactive sessions, the program targeted Civil Engineering students with a CGPA below 2.50. However, it also welcomed students who sought to improve their learning strategies and academic performance.
The workshop was organized by the Civil Engineering Club of UNIMAS (CoCEUS) in collaboration with the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FSKPM). Held on 13 November, 4 December, and 18 December 2024, the program provided a platform for students to engage in group counseling, self-discovery, and academic empowerment.
Session 1: Breaking Barriers (13 November 2024)
The first session, held at the Active Learning Space (ALS), Faculty of Engineering, introduced students to the importance of stepping out of their comfort zones. The session was officiated by Dr. Raudhah from the Faculty of Engineering and Mr. Mohd Shahrul from Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development. They emphasized overcoming academic struggles through courage and support.

A symbolic balloon-popping activity encouraged students to break free from self-imposed limitations. Following this, students completed an online assessment to identify their academic weaknesses and were paired with two facilitators specializing in counseling. The session continued with ice-breaking activities and group counseling, fostering a supportive environment for students to share their challenges.
Session 2: Discovering Learning Styles (4 December 2024)
Held at Ruai Recana, Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, the second session focused on VARK Learning Styles (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic). Students underwent a VARK assessment to determine their optimal learning methods, allowing them to refine their study techniques effectively.

An Art Therapy session followed, where students engaged in origami-making to express emotions and relieve academic stress. To further explore learning techniques, a photographic memory activity challenged students to recall as many images as possible, highlighting the effectiveness of visual learning.

Session 3: Mastering Self-Care (18 December 2024)
The final session emphasized the importance of self-care and stress management. Students learned about the six aspects of self-care; physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, personal, and professional and participated in an assessment to analyze their self-care habits. Students were guided in developing a personalized self-care plan, identifying stress management techniques, overcoming obstacles, and reinforcing positive habits. This session provided students with essential strategies to balance academic responsibilities with mental well-being.
In sum, throughout these three sessions, “Spark the Fire Within You” successfully motivated students to cultivate better learning strategies, manage academic stress, and embrace self-improvement. With 39 participants, the program not only provided valuable insights but also strengthened the collaboration between faculties in fostering student development. The impact of this initiative extends beyond academics, equipping students with skills for lifelong learning. The Civil Engineering Club of UNIMAS (CoCEUS) looks forward to future programs that continue to inspire and empower students.
