Kota Samarahan, Sarawak – 13 May 2025 – The Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FSTS), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), welcomed a visit from China’s Vanov Group and PUSAKA Capital Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC). The main goal of the visit was to explore potential collaboration, especially in bamboo-based projects that UNIMAS is currently developing in partnership with STIDC.

Vanov Group was represented by Mr. Liu Wei Zhe, General Manager of Production Operations, and Madam Xu Yuan, Director of the Research and Development Centre. PUSAKA Capital was represented by Mdm Florence Siaw Tong Yin, Chief Financial Officer, and Mr. Mohd Anan Mokhtar Mohd Zain, Manager of Corporate Planning and Business Development. The delegates were warmly received by Professor Sim Siong Fong, the Tun Zaidi Chair (Head of Chair), Associate Professor Dr. Tay Meng Guan, Deputy Dean of Research and Commercialization, along with other academic staff from the faculty.

During their visit, the delegation toured the FSTS laboratories to better understand the current research facilities and technologies available at UNIMAS. The discussion focused on identifying suitable areas for collaboration in bamboo research and product innovation, which could contribute to sustainable development and local economic growth.

Vanov Group is well known for its eco-friendly brand, BABO, which uses 100% native bamboo pulp to make sustainable products. Their work supports better income for bamboo farmers and promotes rural development. This meeting marks an important step toward building a meaningful partnership between UNIMAS, Vanov, and PUSAKA to promote green technology and sustainable economic growth.
