KOTA SAMARAHAN, 6 May 2025 – The Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) once again took the lead in educational innovation by hosting the Junior Innovate Chumbaka Train-the-Teachers (TTT) Workshop, an inspiring two-day event designed to equip educators with creative tools for change.

The workshop brought together 82 passionate teachers from 74 schools across nine districts in Sarawak’s Southern Zone, united by a common goal: to use game-based learning as a catalyst for promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions.

The program kicked off with an engaging session on Game Design Thinking conducted by Mr. Chuah Kee Man, setting the stage for hands-on training in OctoStudio and PictoBlox—two powerful platforms for educational game development—delivered by the Chumbaka team.

This year’s theme, “Game of Change: Justice and Peace”, aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 16 (SDG 16), which advocates for fair governance, safe communities, and inclusive societies.

Armed with these tools and knowledge, participating teachers will soon mentor their students in designing games that raise awareness and spark conversations around these critical issues.

Now in its sixth year, the collaboration between Chumbaka and the UNIMAS Gamification Centre continues to strengthen, showcasing a shared commitment to nurturing digital creativity and civic awareness among Malaysia’s next generation of changemakers.

The initiative will culminate in the Junior Innovate competition, scheduled for July 2025, where student-led game projects will take center stage in driving social impact through play.
