The Perkampungan Menara Gading (PMG) Sarawak 2025 programme, a collaborative initiative between the Sarawak Islamic Students Welfare Organisation (PERKEPIS) and the Persatuan Mahasiswa Fakulti Sains Kognitif dan Pembangunan Manusia (PM FSKPM), concluded successfully at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) from 18 to 20 April 2025. This three-day event brought together over 250 post-SPM, STPM, and STAM students from across Sarawak to inspire and motivate them to pursue higher education while cultivating leadership competencies.

The programme served as a meaningful platform for participants to gain insight into university life, career pathways, and personal development. Through a series of educational, spiritual, and leadership-focused activities, participants were encouraged to envision their futures with greater clarity, confidence, and purpose.

A Memorable Closing Ceremony

PMG 2025 concluded with an official closing ceremony, officiated by Yang Berhormat Senator Dr. Zulkifli bin Hasan, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs). In his address, Dr. Zulkifli urged the students to uphold the values of knowledge, integrity, and service as they continue their academic and leadership journeys.

Also in attendance was UNIMAS Vice Chancellor, Yang Berbahagia Professor Dr. Haji Ahmad Hata bin Rasit, who expressed appreciation to the organisers and participants. He commended their commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.

“Your presence has not only enlivened the UNIMAS campus but also demonstrates your dedication to knowledge and to building a better future,” remarked Professor Dr. Haji Ahmad Hata.

A Holistic Platform for Learning and Leadership

The programme was designed to offer a holistic learning experience. Among the highlights were career and education exhibitions, where students explored various academic pathways and career options. A Student Parliament simulation enabled participants to engage in debates and discussions on current issues, enhancing their public speaking and leadership skills.

In addition to academic and career-oriented sessions, group training workshops (Latihan Dalam Kumpulan, LDK) focused on personal development and leadership. Inspiring lectures from prominent speakers further enriched the programme. These diverse offerings aimed to develop not only academic abilities but also essential qualities such as leadership, confidence, and effective communication.

UNIMAS’ Role in Community Empowerment

As the host institution, UNIMAS takes pride in supporting this impactful initiative, which aligns with its vision of being a “Community-Driven University for a Sustainable World.” The Vice Chancellor reiterated the importance of such programmes in empowering youth and fostering social responsibility.

“Education that is inclusive and grounded in human values is fundamental to the true sustainable development of our society,” stated Professor Dr. Haji Ahmad Hata.

Through this collaboration with PERKEPIS and PM FSKPM, UNIMAS has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and its role in equipping the next generation with the knowledge, skills, and mindset required for future success.

Cultivating Tomorrow’s Changemakers

PMG 2025 has laid a strong foundation for its participants, providing them not only with a glimpse into university life but also instilling a belief in their potential as future leaders. The programme equipped them with tools to navigate their educational journeys while inspiring them to become proactive, thoughtful individuals ready to drive positive change.

By nurturing critical skills and motivating students to pursue higher education with purpose and determination, PMG 2025 has paved the way for the emergence of the next generation of changemakers in Sarawak and beyond.

Looking Ahead

The success of PMG Sarawak 2025 underscores the vital role of community-based initiatives in shaping the future of Malaysia’s youth. The collaboration between PERKEPIS, PM FSKPM, and UNIMAS exemplifies the power of strategic partnerships in advancing educational and leadership development goals. It sets a strong precedent for future programmes that aim to empower young Malaysians to realise their full potential and drive positive societal change.
