On 9 April 2025, the Empenit Wood Research Workshop was held at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), as part of the ongoing collaboration between UNIMAS and the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS). This activity falls under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 10 December 2021, which focuses on knowledge and skill-sharing through facility development and joint training initiatives.

The workshop aimed to provide insights into specimen preparation, laboratory experimentation, data analysis, and interpretation of results under a research project on wood bolt connections, led by Associate Professor Ir. Dr Abdul Razak Bin Abdul Karim.

A delegation of six representatives from FDS, led by Pn Siti Hanim Sahari, Head of the Development Section, Research and Development Division, attended the session. Also present were two lecturers from the Department of Civil Engineering, a PhD student, and four final-year undergraduate students, all of whom are supervised by Associate Professor Ir. Dr Abdul Razak. Their involvement aimed to deepen understanding and exposure to wood bolt connection research.

The workshop concluded with the official submission of the third activity report to FDS, presented by Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Norazzlina Binti M. Sa’don, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS. The session also marked the receipt of the Empenit wood verification report from FDS, symbolizing a productive and continuing partnership between the two institutions.
