KOTA SAMARAHAN, 21 March 2025—The Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) successfully organized the FCSHD Sungkei with Tahfiz Raudhatul Ilmi, an iftar gathering that exemplified the values of Ramadan. The event, held at Dataran Bucida Canselori, served as a platform for fostering meaningful interactions between university students and young Tahfiz learners, emphasizing the principles of compassion, generosity, and community engagement.
In preparation for the event, the Persatuan Mahasiswa FSKPM (PMFSKPM) team meticulously arranged the venue to create an environment conducive to social interaction and reflection. Seating arrangements were strategically designed to facilitate engagement, while decorative elements, including drapery and wooden partitions, enhanced the visual appeal of the setting. Volunteers diligently organized the distribution of beverages, main courses, and light refreshments to ensure a structured and hospitable dining experience.

Breaking Fast and Strengthening Bonds
Upon arrival, the 25 Tahfiz students, accompanied by their principal, Muhammad Safwan Sayuti, were warmly received by the PMFSKPM team, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity and mutual respect.
At 6:49 PM, the call to Maghrib prayer marked the commencement of the iftar. Attendees engaged in a moment of reflection and dua recitation before partaking in the meal, which included soy sauce chicken rice, fried noodles, and red syrup beverages. The simplicity of the meal underscored the core values of Ramadan—gratitude, humility, and communal unity.
Throughout the evening, UNIMAS students engaged in substantive discussions with the Tahfiz learners, exchanging perspectives on their academic and personal experiences. These interactions facilitated an environment of intellectual and cultural exchange, bridging diverse educational trajectories and fostering mutual appreciation.

Appreciation and Community Engagement
Following the iftar, an appreciation ceremony was conducted to acknowledge the presence of Prof. Dr Ahmad Hatta Rasit, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Mohd Hafizan bin Hashim, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs & Alumni, FCSHD, and other distinguished guests. A formal photography session was held to document the event, capturing the engagement between university representatives and the Tahfiz students.
As a demonstration of UNIMAS’ commitment to community service, “Ramadan Baskets” were presented to the Tahfiz students. This initiative symbolized the university’s dedication to social responsibility and its efforts to cultivate meaningful community relationships. The contribution underscored the broader significance of generosity, extending beyond material support to include the establishment of enduring social connections.

As the event concluded, students, faculty members, and Tahfiz students exchanged formal farewells, expressing aspirations for future collaborative initiatives. The organizing team ensured the venue was meticulously restored to its original state, demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility and respect for shared spaces.
The successful execution of FSKPM Sungkei with Tahfiz Raudhatul Ilmi reinforced community engagement and encouraged students to actively participate in initiatives that promote altruism, social cohesion, and empathy. Events of this nature exemplify UNIMAS’ dedication to fostering meaningful interactions beyond the academic sphere, embodying the fundamental values of Ramadan through acts of service and solidarity.
