KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Industry and Career Talks Series 2024, organised by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT) Industrial Training Team, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), successfully concluded, equipping students with invaluable career insights from industry leaders.
Led by Ts Dr Sarah Flora Juan Samson, the annual event featured professionals from Dell Technologies, Vircle, and Sarawak Energy Berhad, guiding students toward career excellence.

This year’s series included three impactful sessions covering career development, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.
These sessions helped bridge the gap between academia and industry, preparing students for a seamless transition into the professional world.
From Classroom to Corporate: Insights from Dell Technologies
The series opened with an engaging session by Intan Nurshafira, a UNIMAS FCSIT Software Engineering alumna and representative of Dell Technologies.
Her talk, “Navigating the Journey: From Campus to Career,” focused on essential skills for professional success.
She emphasized adaptability, networking, and mastering emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cybersecurity.
Intan encouraged students to build professional connections and explore platforms like LinkedIn to increase employability.
Entrepreneurial Lessons from Vircle’s CEO
The second session featured Gokula Krishnan Subramaniam, Founder & CEO of Vircle, a pioneering fintech company.
His talk, “Go Where Fear Is: UNIMAS to Vircle, My Journey!”, chronicled his transformation from a UNIMAS student to a successful entrepreneur.
Gokula’s inspiring message encouraged students to embrace challenges, innovate boldly, and persist in the face of obstacles.
He highlighted how fintech and digital payment solutions are revolutionizing industries and urged students to seize opportunities in the growing entrepreneurial and technology ecosystems.
Powering the Future: Sarawak Energy’s Sustainable Innovations
The final session was led by Hershel Saba Laman, Senior Engineer at Sarawak Energy Berhad, alongside his team.
Their discussion on sustainability and innovation explored how robotics, automation, and AI are transforming Malaysia’s energy sector.
Students gained insights into renewable energy, green technology, and career opportunities in sustainability.
The session reinforced the importance of technical expertise in engineering, data science, and robotics to drive impactful innovations.
Additional Career Development Sessions
The event also included two faculty-led sessions, “From Classroom to Career: Transforming Your LinkedIn Profile” by Ts Syahrul Nizam Junaini, emphasizing profile optimization, networking, and professional branding, and “Internship Briefing & Seniors’ Sharing Session”, where Rahul Kumar Shawn and Natalie Sia shared real-world insights on industry expectations and networking.
Internship Coordinators Ts Nurfauza Jali and Dr Norfadzlan Yusup provided guidance on the Industrial Training process for Semester 2, 2024/2025.
