The Faculty of Engineering at UNIMAS hosted a highly successful series of presentations on 18 October 2024, featuring distinguished visiting professors from the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform-Net (JASTIP-Net) project. The event, held at the Active Learning Space (ALS), was attended by faculty members and researchers, offering a unique opportunity to engage with leading experts in the fields of sustainable energy, green technology, and advanced materials
This event was made possible by the efforts of Ts. Dr. Yiin, a project member of JASTIP-Net and a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Energy Sustainability, who played a key role in inviting the professors and facilitating the event. This event marked a significant step in fostering international research collaborations between UNIMAS and prominent institutions from Japan and Thailand. The visiting professors shared their cutting-edge research in a range of scientific fields, sparking insightful discussions and presenting potential opportunities for future partnerships.
The visiting professors, known for their expertise in various fields, shared their latest research and innovations:
- Prof. Dr. Suttichai Assabumrungat from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, presented on Chemical Reaction Engineering, Hydrogen Production, and Biorefinery, focusing on sustainable energy solutions such as biodiesel production and multifunctional reactors.
- Prof. Dr. Armando T. Quitain from Kumamoto University, Japan, discussed his research in Supercritical Fluids, Biofuels, and Carbocatalysis, highlighting advancements in energy production technologies with an emphasis on sustainability.
- Prof. Ir Dr. Suzana Yusup from Tenaga Nasional Research Berhad shared her work on Biomass Conversion, Green Processes, and Material Development, focusing on sustainable materials and processes for future energy solutions.
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bridgid Chin Lai Fui from Curtin University Malaysia presented on Bio-Hydrogen Production, Gasification, and Green Technologies, offering insights into innovative technologies for cleaner energy and efficient resource management.
These presentations provided a platform for productive discussions, with the visiting professors expressing a keen interest in establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNIMAS to further enhance collaboration on research projects.
The event highlighted the Faculty of Engineering’s commitment to fostering international research partnerships and advancing the development of sustainable technologies. UNIMAS looks forward to building on these discussions and exploring future collaborative opportunities.
