On December 19, 2024, the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) hosted the inaugural lecture of YBhg Professor Dr. Chen Chwen Jen, titled Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Learning. Delivered at the DeTAR PUTRA, the lecture addressed the transformative potential of AI in learning—a subject of critical importance in the current era of rapid technological advancements.
Professor Dr. Chen, an esteemed scholar specializing in Learning Design and Technology, highlighted how AI has begun to revolutionize traditional learning paradigms. Her lecture provided a comprehensive framework for understanding AI’s role in enhancing cognition, building expansive knowledge networks, and fostering innovative learning practices. Drawing on her extensive research, she discussed practical strategies for integrating AI into teaching and learning, emphasizing ethical considerations, the evolution of educator roles, and the development of new literacies and competencies essential for AI-driven environments.
A key feature of the event was a demonstration of LearnSphere, an innovative AI learning application developed by Associate Professor Dr. Teh Chee Siong and Cognitive Science student Tan Aik Hua. This system exemplifies the potential of AI in creating inclusive and secure learning experiences. The lecture culminated in the official launch of her latest book, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Learning, officiated by YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, Chairman of the UNIMAS Board of Directors. This publication consolidates Professor Dr. Chen’s theoretical contributions to the field, making it a valuable resource for educators and policymakers navigating the complexities of AI in learning.
