The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) proudly congratulates its student, Thennish Vertrivel, and all recipients of the prestigious UNIMAS Zamalah Graduate Scheme. The awards, for the 2024 Cycle II, were conferred in a ceremony on December 9, 2024. The event recognized 21 outstanding postgraduate students, including 18 local and 3 international scholars, for their academic excellence and potential contributions to research and innovation.
Thennish Vertrivel, a postgraduate student under the supervision of Dr. Tharshini A/P Sivabalan, as the main supervisor, and co-supervised by Dr. Faizah Bt Hj Masu’ud, was one of the recipients. The faculty commended Thennish on this achievement, which reflects his hard work and dedication, as well as the exceptional mentorship provided by his supervisors.
The Zamalah Graduate Scheme, introduced in 2003, is a flagship initiative of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to support the development of human capital through scholarships for master’s and doctoral students. To date, the scheme has benefited 909 scholars, comprising 749 local and 160 international students.
Officiating the ceremony, UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hj Ahmad Hata bin Rasit highlighted the scheme’s significance, stating, “The Zamalah Graduate Scheme represents our commitment to cultivating future leaders and innovators who will make meaningful contributions to society and the world.”
Also present were Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Noor Linda Taib, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) and Chairperson of the Zamalah Committee, and Prof. Dr. Fitri Suraya Mohamad Hapni Joblie, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International).
The FSSH Postgraduate Program extends its best wishes to all recipients, encouraging them to make the most of this opportunity to advance their research and contribute to the academic community. This recognition is proof of UNIMAS’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence and its mission to produce globally competitive graduates.
