On 16 November 2024, we continued our FENG with Nature Series 8.0 journey, reconnecting with nature once again at the Libiki Bamboo Resort in Bau, Sarawak. This series, which began in 2022, took us to various breathtaking locations, including Abba Paradise, Koloyan River Cottage, Adis Buan, and Libiki Bamboo Resort in Bau, Kuching, as well as Perrev Riverside in Padawan, Kuching, and finally Meteor Garden in Matang, Kuching.

The program was designed to provide experiential learning through fieldwork, focusing on streamflow measurement while offering participants an opportunity to relieve stress and rejuvenate in a serene natural environment. It served as both an educational activity to map water profiles and river behaviors and an effort to promote our river recreational parks. We hoped students found the activity engaging and achieved the intended learning outcomes.

Participants included students registered for KNS3611 Hydrology Lab from the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, along with their course lecturers and technical staff. The event was organized in collaboration with the FENG Club and the UNIMAS Water Center (UWC). During the fieldwork, students conducted experiments on streamflow measurement, river water quantity and quality testing, and hydrology-related studies as part of the Year 2 Hydrology Laboratory module.

Amid their hands-on activities, students also enjoyed the cool breeze and vibrant greenery of the natural surroundings, providing a welcome escape from the urban hardscape.
